Defense of marriage act :Obama administration won't defend

Latest news:The Obama administration, at a key moment for gay rights, said the section of Defense Marriage Act is unconstitutional as applied to gay couples who are legally married under the law. Administration vows not to defend the law against two lawsuits from same-sex couples.
In its legal analysis, discrimination against gays warrant attention, but not universally accepted. "There is, unfortunately, much of the history of purposeful discrimination against gays and lesbians, government and individuals, based on prejudices and stereotypes that continue to have an impact today," he said. He also cited the "recent evolution of the" law of the courts and state legislatures to recognize the principle of equal treatment for gays and lesbians.
