Latest news: 2012 Olympics logo:  Tehran, Iran (AP) - Iran Objects logo for the 2012 Olympics in London, claiming it is racist, because it resembles the word "Zion" and warning of a possible boycott games.The general secretary of the National Olympic Committee of Iran stated that Iran sent letter to the International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge. Letter claims in 2012, the logo spells out "Zion," a biblical term that is widely accepted to refer to the city of Jerusalem.
The commentary is the official news agency IRNA on Monday, Secretary General Bahram Afsharzadeh said in a letter calls on other Muslim countries to confront the "racist logo." "There is no doubt that the question of negligence on your part can affect the availability of some countries in games, especially with Iran, which resides on the commitment to the values and principles," the letter said.Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for Israel's destruction and questioned the historical account Holocaust. Iranian athletes have refused to compete against Israelis.
Logo London shows numbers "2012" in the four digits of gear and still is criticized only for its design. The IOC said that he had received a letter and came to London organizers in rejecting the complaint of Iran. "We are surprised that this complaint was made at the present time," said Committee.
